Sport participation is down for boys, youngsters are playing sport less regularly, and dropout is still a problem. What would youth sport look like if we could fix these things?
Great paper!
'Physical literacy' (PT) is a very relevant term.
My opinion and observations...
Crucial for PT (needs) to start young... like early toddler stage with parents.
Playing with balls - rolling, throwing, catching, kicking etc.
Park and outdoor play - walking, running, jumping, climbing, scooting, bike, playparks, etc.
If this stage missed out, difficult to catch up and too late.
You see it, with 7/8 yo's arriving to get involved in sports with little to no pre-school PT.
Immediately, they're retarded physically and understandably interest and enthusiasm then wanes.
Mostly, you don't enjoy doing something you're not reasonably proficient at.
They drop out.
